ImageA young martial arts enthusiast defeated competitors six years older to claim a medal in a national championship.

Giorgio Ryan, from Enfield, won a bronze medal at the English Tae Kwon Do tournament, the most prestigious of its kind in the country, reports the Enfield Independent.

After his successes in the national championship, the nine-year-old now travels to Ireland to compete in the European Tae Kwon Do Championships.

In the English tournament Giorgio won bronze in the boys' black belt sparring and was then beaten into fourth place in the under-15 boys' patterns, where a set of technical movements have to be performed.

Nine-year-old Giorgio became the youngest boy in the country to be awarded a black belt in Tae Kwon Do.

In other news, eight students from the South Devon Tae Kwon Do School were victorious in the UKTA English Open Tae Kwon Do Championships, reports the Torquay Herald Express.
