ImageA mother has told how martial arts have transformed her life after once suffering frequent panic attacks.

Bev Ridley, of Halesowen, suffered from a crippling lack of self-confidence until she started visiting Winspers School of Black Belts, reports the Birmingham Mail.

The 44-year-old took up kickboxing and self-defence classes and started teaching within months of starting. She has now been a tutor for six years having gained her second dan black belt.

Ms Ridley told the newspaper that if it wasn't for the support given at the school then she would not have transformed into the women she is now.

"When they see me now, people cannot believe how much confidence I lacked in myself before, and it's all down to the unique atmosphere at the club," said Ms Ridley.

She added: "I love everything about the training, especially the self-defence side, the ground work and grappling."

During April, a new initiative in the Amber Valley is using tae-kwon do and self defense to increase people's self confidence, reports Belper News.
