ImageJudo enthusiasts from a small village club are searching for sponsors after earning the chance to compete in Europe.

Acorn Judo Club, in the east Midlands village of Digby, won a multitude of trophies in recent competitions and two competitors have qualified for the European Championships in Holland, reports the Sleaford Standard.

Maxine Welsby, 15, won a bronze in the AJA Open in Leicestershire and Laura Orme, 19, also won bronze at the Peterborough Open competition.

The two are now hoping to find sponsors to be able to finance their European competition costs for the championship on May 16 – 18th.

Julie Norman, regional coach, told the newspaper: "This is a great achievement for the club and the girls are hoping to get sponsorship to help finance their European competition costs.

"Everyone is doing so well and the club has just exploded."

During March the newspaper reported that the Acorn Judo Club won 14 trophies at a recent competition, bringing the trophy haul for the club to 23 already this year.
