A judo club in Kidderminster has been awarded national recognition for its coaching of students.
The Samurai Judo Club becomes only the second judo club to be given the Clubmark Gold Award, the government's kitemark for sports clubs.
A high quality of leadership, coaching, administration and welfare have to be demonstrated to earn the accolade, reports the Kidderminster Shuttle.
Sarah Newbury, chairman of the club, was presented with the award by Graham Bayley, the development officer for the British Judo Association.
The Club was founded in 1979 and has had numerous British champions among its ranks over the years, but was narrowly beaten to being the first judo club to win the Clubmark Gold Award by the new £4.3 million Dartford Judo Club.
It is reported that Samurai Judo Club could be used as a training base for some of the foreign teams competing in the 2012 Olympics.
Meanwhile, the new Dartford Judo Club set to become the base for British Judo.
Thisislocallondon reports that the site will be the first national facility specifically for judo training and will work to provide British judo success at the 2012 Olympics and beyond.
