ImageTwo twins aged just three years old have been awarded their red belts in karate.

Alfie and Elle-May Norman are the youngest competitors in their class and have been practising the martial art since January, reports The Argus.

The pair train with the Sama Karate Organisation in Peacehaven and are following in the footsteps of their older sister Tia, who has achieved her second green belt.

Instructor Scott Gibson told the newspaper that the pair are particularly impressive for their age.

He spoke of how martial arts are good for discipline and concentration and of how he was impressed at how the twins have taken to it so quickly.

The twin's father, Daniel Norman, said that they were influenced to take up karate after seeing their sister doing it.

"It's definitely helped them, not that they were a problem beforehand but it has instilled something in them," he added.

The Sunderland Echo recently reported that members as young as three participated in the Sunderland International Festival of Martial Arts to raise thousands of pounds for charity.
