A martial arts group in greater London is hoping to provide youngsters with an alternative to committing crimes and causing anti-social behaviour.
Sanshu UK in Petts Wood, Orpington, is using kung fu to get teenagers off the streets and learn some discipline, reports thisislocallondon.co.uk.
Tom Metcalfe, a qualified trainer, launched the Respect programme in the hope of preventing young people in the area from joining gangs and to offer them the opportunity of "something to do".
Mr Metcalfe told the news publication that the inspiration for Respect was the murder of 18-year-old Rob Know, who was killed in Sidcup in May.
"It involves going out and talking to groups and individuals," he said.
"Trying to get them involved in something positive, giving them a way out of gangs and giving them something to do."
Last month, a school in Stockton announced that it was using an "ancient samurai code of honour" to beat bullying among pupils, the Northern Echo reported.
