An eight-year-old from Devon has been awarded for her hard work in learning self defence skills.
Alice Johnson has won the Young People's Achievement Award in the Staying Safe category, which is sponsored by Devon's Children's Trust, reports Devon 24.
Ms Johnson has been learning karate for the last six years and is now a black belt in the martial arts.
She was commended for her hard work in learning karate and "being able to protect herself and others around her".
John Smith, county council executive member for children and young people's services, said during the awards ceremony: "My sincere congratulations to the category winners, whose outstanding work to improve their own lives and the lives of others is a shining example to us all."
It follows the news that seven-year-old Connor Kemp from Newmarket has been attending karate lessons despite his cerebral palsy.
The Newmarket Journal recently reported that it is hoped the martial art will build up the youngster's confidence, with instructors adapting some techniques especially for him.
