ImageMembers of a Yorkshire martial arts club have returned from a trip to South Africa.

Steven Thompson and Suzanne Pattison from Scarborough Shotokan Karate Club travelled to the Shotokan Ryu Kase Ha in Durban to perform and instruct at the club.

The Scarborough Evening News reports that Mr Thompson taught training methods to the club's teachers after being invited by chief instructor San Pillay.

Ms Pattison presented her fourth dan grading techniques to members of the club to prepare them for a future grading.

Speaking about his colleague, Mr Thompson told the newspaper: "Suzanne is now one of the highest ranked female karate performers in the country..

"She is always one of the first to arrive and the last to leave the dojo and is always there to help the students."

Nine-year-old Kashif Tahir from Dewsbury recently won gold in the British National Amateur Martial Arts Association Championships, according to the Dewsbury Reporter.
