ImageA karate expert is set to perform on a new ITV television show.

Ed Byrne, from Indian Queens in Cornwall, will show his strength later this year on Superhuman: Walking with Giants, thisiscornwall.co.uk reported.

Mr Byrne, who is a ninth dan karate black belt and a full time martial arts instructor, broke a world record earlier this year by smashing through 55 concrete blocks in 4.86 seconds.

He also broke 19 slabs in one hit at the same event in Newquay and is attempting to break more blocks on the forthcoming show.

Mr Byrne told the news site that he is "happy" to attempt the new world record of 31 blocks, which he "can do".

"ITV got in touch with me and they want to wire me up to some machines to test how much strength I have," he added.

The Scarborough Evening News recently reported that two members of the town's Shotokan Karate Club have travelled to Durban to perform and instruct at a club in the city.
