A karate instructor from Sussex has been named as the head of the British arm of the International Shorinjyru Karate Federation.
Julie Turley, who has had a black belt for 25 years and teaches the martial art across mid-Sussex, was inaugurated during a trip to Finland to meet the global head of the federation.
The Mid Sussex Times reports that Ms Turley visited the country to establish links between karate students in the UK and Finland.
Ms Turley told the newspaper: "I am extremely proud to be a student of Soke Tamotsu, a world renowned 10th dan.
"He is an inspiring teacher and dedicates fees from all his international teaching duties to raising money for his charitable foundation which provides education for children in India."
Two members of the Scarborough Shotokan Karate Club have recently returned from a trip to South Africa.
Steven Thompson and Suzanne Pattison both taught training methods to the Shotokan Ryu Kase Ha Club in Durban, the Scarborough Evening News reported.
