ImageA 15-year-old boy has returned from the Wado International Karate Do Federation (WIKF) world championship in Portugal with two gold medals for karate.

The News Shopper reports that Ben Coward of Wilmington has ben learning martial arts since he was four years old and is part of the Hyo Gen Do competition squad which is currently preparing for the British National Karate Championship.

While in Portugal, he achieved success in both the individual and group competitions.

Speaking to the news provider he said that winning at the recent event had been his proudest moment.

"I now know if given the opportunity I would definitely want to represent Great Britain at the London 2012 Olympic Games if karate were to receive Olympic programme status," the youngster concluded.

Meanwhile, the Gazette reports that a Sodbury family have competed in the World Karate Championship in Orlando as part of the Great British team, winning eight medals between them.
