ImageA north-east martial arts club has hosted an annual summer training camp and grading examination.

The Chikara Dojo of Kyokishin Karate, which is based in Spennymoor, played host to its annual three-day camp, reports the Spenny News.

During the training camp, which was attended by clubs across the UK, its members Taylor Murphy and James Argument passed their yellow belt black stripe gradings.

Adam Foster and Debbie Corbett also both passed the examinations to gain their orange belt.

Glen Alexander, a black belt fighter from Scotland who attended the camp, told the publication that attendees trained in a variety of environments including woodlands, rivers and on the beach.

"I have attended this camp in previous years and it goes from strength to strength, every time I visit Spennymoor I have a great time," he said.

A north-east teenager recently became a kickboxing world champion.

The Peterlee Mail reports that Luke Farrow, a trainee plumber from the town, was victorious in the 18-29 year old middleweight division at the ISKA Martial Arts US Open in Florida.
