A kickboxer from the Midlands has become the first member of his club to earn a black belt.
Spencer Symons, who is a member of Drew Neal's Lighthouse Kickboxing School, passed his black belt examination after being tested for over three months.
The Kidderminster Shuffle reports that the 37-year-old had been training for over five years and had to perform a number of fitness and sparring tests together with a written essay to earn his black belt.
His instructor Drew Neal told the newspaper that it was "special" to see the first member pass the achievement.
"I am extremely proud of Simon's achievements as I know how hard he has had to work and have watched him every step of the way," he added.
In other news, a kickboxing scheme which was established just over 12 months ago has seen five members qualify for the World Championships.
The Rivals Gym in Newmains is now celebrating as the fighters prepare for the World Kickboxing Association World Championships in Florida this November, The Wishaw Press reports.
