A north-east martial arts club is celebrating after two of its members have won World Championship gold medals.
The Northern Tang Soo Do Karate Club from Redcar sent 17 fighters to the World Championship in Florida and has returned with a total of five medals, reports the Evening Gazette.
Louise Morton and Thomas Beedle each won gold medals in their respective weapons categories, with the latter also earning a bronze medal in the sparring competition.
The club won a further two medals when Geoffrey Annis and Sophie Morton, Louise's daughter, both won bronze medals in the staff forms.
Martin Silk, a club member who also fought in the competition, told the newspaper that the Redcar club helped GB representatives to win 61 trophies, "including three grand champions".
"I'm very pleased with our contribution to that. Not everyone got something, but the team itself performed very, very well," he added.
Ben Coward from Dartford recently won two gold medals in the WIKF World Championship in Portugal, the News Shopper reported.
