ImageA north-east martial arts club has received a grant to allow members to attend a training course.

The Ashington Karate Club has been awarded £7,100 from Awards for All, reports the News Post Leader.

Following the award of the grant, ten members will now attend a residential summer training course which will be run by the Karate Union of Great Britain (KUGB).

The KUGB course is being held at Lancaster University and allows club members from across the country to train with their most senior instructors.

According the club, it will use the rest of the grant to both subsidise travel for its members to competitions and to also run sports programmes in local schools.

In other news, eight-year-old Aaron Cobley helped Staveley Martial Arts Club to victory in the Battle of Britain Fight Night in Swindon, the Derbyshire Times reports.
