Youth-on-youth crime in Ipswich has lowered during the school holidays while martial arts training sessions have been held.
A training programme entitled Game On, which consists of martial arts, non-contact boxing and street dance, has been taught during free training sessions throughout the duration of the summer.
The Evening Star reports that coaching sessions have been held hourly, funded by Ipswich borough council and an estimated £30,000 grant by Sport England.
Suffolk Police has said that crime levels committed "by and against" young people is now "dramatically down" on previous years.
One of the coaches, Stuart Wall, told the newspaper that there has been a "really nice response".
"The whole idea of this project is to keep these kids off the streets and out of trouble and we've found that, if you give them something free to do, they are generally really good kids," he added.
The Ashington Karate Club recently received £7,100 funding from the Awards for All scheme, the News Post Leader reports.
