ImageA ten-year old karate enthusiast has achieved her black belt in the martial art.

Billie-Jade McGuinness from Golborne has been studying the martial art for the last five years and has become the youngest person from her club, the Ryu Do Shotokan Karate Academy, to ever achieve black belt status.

According to the Leigh Reporter, she trains under fifth dan Brian Bentham and second dan Sarah Lossman at the academy.

Mr Bentham, also a national coach for the British Karate Association, told the newspaper that Ms McGuinness trains "really hard" three times a week.

"She's a very dedicated kid and she enters competitions on a regular basis and does well in them," he added.

The Midhurst and Petworth Observer recently reported that 14-year old Ellie Moulding from Midhurst achieved her first dan black belt status in karate at a recent grading examination.
