A boxing club which aims to help young people has been awarded a grant by the Avon and Somerset Police Community Trust.
The Downend Police and Community Amateur Boxing Club in Mangotsfeld has been given £1,000 to help provide the right equipment and support to its 400 members.
It aims to aid the club in its efforts to help youngsters combat difficult issues such as bullying and self defence.
Craig Turner, a police community support officer who helps to run the club, said that boxing can help young people with "focus, discipline and exercise", which can all help people to "improve their life skills".
"There's no doubt that without the outlet for their energies which the club provides, some of our members could find themselves getting into trouble," he added.
Gordon Brown recently said that he hoped to see an increase in people participating in sports which "instil discipline" during the run-up to the London 2012 Olympics.
