A youngster who turned to martial arts in order to combat school bullies is set to participate in the World Championships.
Penny Turner, who trains with Crewe Ju-Jitsu Club, is preparing to compete in the Children's World Shotokan Karate Championships in Venice later this month.
The Crewe Chronicle reports the 11-year old will take part in the kata category, qualifying after being victorious in the European Championships last year.
A spokesman for the Ju-Jitsu club told the newspaper it was a "major achievement" for Ms Turner and wished her "the best of luck".
"Penny has been a member of Crewe Ju-Jitsu Club for four years and has shown dedication and commitment throughout," he added.
The Slough & Langley Observer recently reported that judo instructor Don Werner had been commended with the President's Award from the British Judo Association.
