ImageA duo of martial arts experts from the east of England have returned from a prestigious European tournament.

Hannah Wheeler-Smith and Latia Suen, from Lowestoft and Bradwell respectively, both competed at the European Festival of Martial Arts, which took place in Disneyland Paris.

The Lowestoft Journal reports that the girls found themselves fighting each other in the bronze medal match in the Kate category, with Ms Suen emerging victorious.

Both girls were representing both their Phoenix Karate club and the Amateur Martial Arts Association at the competition.

Vivianne Trorey, the girls' instructor, told the newspaper: "The girls have had a good time, not only have they competed and been able to see other styles like the Tae Kwon Do students performing, they also got to attend a training session with Richard Bustillo an original student of the legendary Bruce Lee."

The Crewe Chronicle recently reported that 11-year old Penny Turner is set to compete in the Children's World Shotokan Karate Championships in Venice later this month.
