ImageA martial arts instructor from Wales has been honoured with full accreditation following a teaching trip to the US.

Carl Lewis, who teaches self defence to people living in Wrexham, was invited to teach at a three day seminar and has become the first person in Wales to be offered full instructorship accreditation in Jeet Kune Do (JKD).

The Wrexham Evening Leader reports that only two other people, one in Scotland and one in England have received the prestigious honour to date.

Mr Lewis has told the newspaper he now plans to start small classes for people interested in learning self defence or improving their fitness.

"JKD was originally devised by Bruce Lee," he added.

"There are people teaching this art in the country but most aren't really qualified to take it. I tend to teach instructors. Many of my students have dans in other martial arts."

In other news, the Huddersfield Daily Examiner reports that Damian Bowden and Jill Irving from the Total Taekwondo Martial Arts School in the city have won gold and silver medals respectively in a tournament held in Doncaster.
