Tamworth karate fighter wins world firefighter gold PDF Print E-mail

ImageA martial arts enthusiast from Tamworth is celebrating after winning a world title.

Dave Burnham, from Tamworth Shotokan Martial Arts Club, won gold at the World Firefighters Games, which took place in Liverpool recently.

Thisistamworth.co.uk reports that over 5,000 both serving and retired firefighters competed, with Mr Burnham emerging victorious in the Kumite and Kata All Styles Karate event.

The 1st kyu fighter, who represented Great Britain in the international tournament, defeated participants from France, Venezuela and Russia to win the world gold.

In other news, John Southwick from Addiscombe Boys and Girls Club, has told thisiscroydon.co.uk that he is hoping to attract youngsters to judo classes at the club.

He added that boys or girls between the ages of 13 and 19 are encouraged to attend the lessons, saying they are a great way to "do something productive".
