A national martial arts champion is knuckling down to some hard training with an international competition in her sights, it has been reported.
University of East London (UEL) student Amy Thomason is part of the England karate squad and the Great Britain University Team for UEL, but hopes to bag a gold medal at the fourth European Universities' Karate Championship in Spain this July, the Newham Recorder reports.
The enthusiast took up karate at the age of seven, quickly showing discipline and integrity that have gone on to form a match-winning combination.
Ms Thomason told the newspaper: "I'm training hard and finishing my degree so I'm really looking forward to taking part in the European Championships afterwards."
"It's a really hectic time for me," she added.
Since moving to London, the promising young fighter has been a part of Kaizen Central martial arts club, training under former Karate England national coach and two-times world champion Willie Thomas (6th dan).
The club offers several approaches to martial arts including sport karate, private lessons and open family courses, which cater for adults and children of all grades, its website states.
