ImageJapanese golfer Shingo Katayama has taken up martial arts in order to improve his swing, it has been reported.

The US Master fourth is exploring new avenues for exercise and development of discipline in a bid to boost his winning chances.

Speaking at the Foreign Correspondents' Club of Japan, Katayama commented: "I won't be getting much bigger physically, so I've been studying Japanese martial arts to see how they can help me improve."

"I've been looking at things like Aikido and even Noh Theatre to see how I can incorporate them into my golf swing," the competitor added.

In other celebrity martial arts news, Slumdog Millionaire star Dev Patel recently told the press that he hopes to act in a martial arts movie.
